  1. Installation Instructions
  2.  
  3. TO RUN DESCENT: LEVELS OF THE WORLD FOR WINDOWS 95:
  4. Make sure the Descent: Levels Of The World CD is in your CD-ROM drive.
  5. From the Windows95 desktop, click on start, then go up to programs and
  6. find Explorer and click on it. Windows Explorer will open. Scroll around
  7. the first window and find the CD Rom drive. It is usually D or E.  You
  8. will see the files come up on the right hand side. Find the DLOTW folder
  9. and double click on it. Then find the DLOW.EXE file. This will start the
  10. Descent: Levels of the World Browser utility.

  13. NOTE -- After the Descent game runs, it will leave a DOS box up on your
  14. screen (If you haven't already set the option to close on exit).
  15. You will have to set this (to close) by hand the first time you run!  
  16. You can tell if you need to do this if upon exit from DESCENT, you have a 
  17. box up with "Finished - Descent" as the title.

  19. Click on the upper left (SYSTEM) corner of the DOS Window, select the 
  20. menu item "Properties", and then check the box marked "Close on Exit".
  21. Then, close the box by clicking on the close icon.

  24. TO INSTALL THE LEVELS DIRECTLY INTO DESCENT FROM DOS:
  25. You will need to know the drive designation of your CD-ROM Drive
  26. (usually either D: or E: on most computers) and the directory in which
  27. Descent has been installed (normally C:\GAMES\DESCENT). Make sure the
  28. Descent: Levels Of The World CD is in your CD-ROM drive. From the
  29. command line prompt (usually C: on most Pcs), move to your CD-ROM drive
  30. main directory. For example, if your CD-ROM drive is set up as the E:
  31. drive, type: E: <ENTER> Then type CD LEVELS <ENTER>. Then type COPY *.*
  32. C:\GAMES\DESCENT. The levels will be copied directly into the Descent
  33. directory. To play one of the new levels, boot Descent. Select NEW GAME,
  34. then select a level to play. NOTE: If your Descent directory is
  35. different than the example used here, type that directory name. For
  36. example, if you have previously installed Descent in a directory named
  37. C:\DESCENT, type: COPY *.* C:\DESCENT
  38.  
  39. NOTE: Keep in mind that DESCENT can only have 99 levels in its current
  40.       directory at any one time. Any levels that excede that will be 
  41.       truncated in the level selection window of the game.
  42.  
  43. USING THE BROWSER/LAUNCHER
  44. The Browser is a simple program designed to let you skim through a list
  45. of the 120+ levels submitted to us as contest entries, read the
  46. description the level designer wrote about the level, then launch
  47. Descent and play it. To browse the levels, just click on one of the
  48. three buttons on the left of the screen.  They are: THE WINNER:  The
  49. level design that took First Place in our Levels Of The World contest.
  50.  
  51. TOP TEN:  The top ten prize winners of the contest.
  52.  
  53. ALL ENTRIES:  All the entries that passed our crash tests and were
  54. eligible to win a prize in the contest. After clicking on one of the
  55. above buttons, a list of the levels will display. To read a description
  56. of the level, simply click once on it.  The description will display in
  57. the box to the right of the list. To launch a level and load Descent,
  58. click once on the level name in the list box on the left of the screen,
  59. then click on the Play Level button at the bottom of the screen.

  61. After Descent loads, select NEW GAME from the Descent Menu.  The level
  62. you have selected to play will appear at the top of the list.  Use the
  63. arrow keys to highlight the name, press ENTER and have fun!
